LaunchPad Award

A new initiative to remove barriers and open doors for students in Greater Sudbury by providing brand new laptops to youth who need them most.

Technology has become essential for learning. Research, assignments, classroom platforms, communication… everything now assumes a student has access to a reliable device. But for many families, especially with rising living costs, the extra money for a laptop simply isn’t realistic. And that gap can quietly limit a student’s confidence, participation, and opportunities.

As someone who grew up with very limited resources and faced a ton of barriers, I know how transformative a single tool like a computer can be. A computer opens a whole new world….and sometimes a young person just needs a launchpad, one boost that shifts the trajectory of their future.

This year, Compass CPA will be awarding two new laptops to students in grades 7 through 12 within the City of Greater Sudbury who do not have access to one at home. If interest and community support allow, we hope to grow this initiative even more.

To protect privacy, winners will not be publicly announced. Parents can choose to surprise their child directly.

We will ensure these laptops are in the hands of the selected students this month (before Christmas) so they can begin the January semester with the technology they need to succeed.

How to Apply

Applications close Friday, December 13 at 11:59 PM.

Please include:
• Name and relationship of the person applying
• The student’s name
• Your contact information (email and phone)
• School and grade
• A written statement confirming that the student does not have their own laptop or access to one
• A short statement on how having a laptop would support the student’s education
• A short statement outlining the current barriers to accessing technology
• A short statement about the student (interests, hobbies, strengths)

Opening doors. Removing barriers. Launching futures… one student and one laptop at a time.
